Best Albums of 2015 So Far…

After working hours trying to figure out this wordpress stuff (which I’m a total noob at) I took a quick review of the year and picked out a handful of my favorite albums released… Let’s take a look:

Joey Badass – B4DA$$

This young talented rapper is bringing back the East coast (aka Beast Coast) with his Pro Era label. “B4DA$$” is an excellent debut album which keeps it old school and Joey adds some Jamaican flavor.

Alabama Shakes – Sound & Colour

Nice and punchy blues rock. Didn’t really know much about The Alabama Shakes before I heard this record, but I’ve been missing something like this since the Black Keys released “Brothers”.

Drake – If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late

This project came out of nowhere and was surprisingly tight. “If You’re Reading This it’s Too Late” seemed much more focused than a lot of Drake’s previous projects and I loved the darker instrumentals.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Multi-Love

I absolutely love this album. Funky and psychedelic indie rock which has this lo-fi sound that I dig. Most of the tracks on this record just makes me want to dance.

Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly

It took me a few listens before this album didn’t completely weird me out. Trendy shiny instrumentals had been switched out with a redefined old school sound and a lot of jazz influence. But just like the movie inception, once you got it you could not deny the brilliance. Bravo Kendrick. Bravo.

Jamie XX – In Colours

I’m not head over heels for Jamie xx, but In Colours is in my opinion the best electronic album released so far this year (Disclosure says hang in there tuktuk!). Lot of interesting tracks here, and the Young Thug collab is great.

Young Thug – Barter 6

Speaking of Young Thug! Cloud rap is an excellent term for the sound on this album due to Young thug’s voice literally sounding like he is on cloud 9. After a few listens I actually enjoyed this one a lot more than expected.

Tame impala – Currents

Great album from Tame Impala where they take a new direction. A lot of synth pianos instead of guitars makes the sound very funky, and some of the songs fit right into the new wave genre. Either way, the tracks on this record are just consistently good.

Miguel – Wildheart

On new directions, when did Miguel become a rockstar? “Wildheart” is a experimental fusion of indie rock and r&b, but it surprisingly works. This record has a natural flow from start to finish, and that’s one of the most important things for me when listeing to a new album.

Lianne La Havas – Blood

This girl is a talented singer/guitarist from London who hasn’t nearly gotten the attention she deserves. Personally I feel that “Blood” is the best pop record this year by far. Soulful, warm and loving. Mmmm

Bonus: Chelsea Wolf – Abyss

Last on my list is a bonus! It’s not really my taste, but nonetheless “Abyss” is a great record which has created quite some buzz recently. Be warned, this gothic rock album is scaaary.

Let me know what you think.
